Houses of the Requiem

Postby Rob Justice » Mon Sep 22, 2008 11:47 am

This was an idea I was kicking around... Converting the Vampire: The Requiem setting to Houses of the Blooded. I think the rules system is a great fit for some styles of Vampire.

Some initial thoughts:

You're family would turn into your Clan along the following lines
Strength = Gangrel
Cunning = Ventrue
Courage = Nosferatu
Beauty = Daeva
Wisdom = Mekhet
Prowess = None (IE- There is no Clan that gives a bonus to Prowess)

Every Vampire would have a Free Aspect as listed below
The Beast
Tag: to "Ride the Beast" for a bonus to instinctual Strength Risks (running, jumping, climbing, etc.)
Compel: when the character is Frenzied
Invoke: to goad the Beast into a Frenzy

The Disciplines would translated into the the Devotions and the Dots would be Ranks in the Devotion. I don't have any examples but I think you get the idea.

Any thoughts?

I like the approach with the aspect "Beast"... That is a dangerous aspect to have, since it every vampire has it - and knows the tag and compel for the aspect.

Regarding the clans: for vampire it would be more appropriate to reduce the virtues to five, something like:

Grace of the Daeva
Fury of the Gangrel
Wisdom of the Mekhet
Cunning of the Nosferatu
Command of the Ventrue

The virtues would be defined slightly different from the HotB ones. A character would have four virtues and one weakness.

Blood points would replace Style points.

Disciplines would work like Blessings.
Blood Sorcery would work like Sorcery (Cruac and Theban Sorcery).

Instead of Seasons you would have age: Neonate, Ancilla, Elder, ...

I would drop duels and grappling subsystems. It is not as important as in HotB.

Provinces would be replaced by Domains - and instead of re-writing the whole Season chapter, I would use a modification of the Reign Company system. Far easier to handle, especially in a modern context.

Rank/Title could be worked out from the various office descriptions. Each office should provide some sort of bonus to the Company actions.

Just my .02 €

You've obviously never played in the Camarilla Club or OWBN. :lol:

I wouldn't want to alter the system that much, but I think I'd re-word the Virtues but instead of them having different meanings they simply are a translation. IE- Courage is still Courage but you call it something different... Here's what I thought up.

Strength = Greed
Cunning = Envy
Courage = Pride
Beauty = Lust
Wisdom = Gluttony
Prowess = Wrath

Why no Sloth? He was to lazy to show up at the Virtue party.

Those were all my thoughts on the subject.

I disagree, Kindred are arcaic. They like the old ways, like settling differeances with Duels :D

I wouldn't do that simply because its to much damn work fitting two systems together. I'll keep the Provinces but bascially like I did with Virtues, re-word things. Instead of having tracs of land like in Houses you control parts of a city.

I also re-thought my inital concepts for Clan/Virtues:

Strength = Greed = No Clan
Cunning = Envy = Mekhet
Courage = Pride = Ventrue
Beauty = Lust = Daeva
Wisdom = Gluttony = Nosferatu
Prowess = Wrath = Gangrel

I can explain my choices if you like... but I think you're creative enough to understand them.

I'm also toying around with the idea of giving every Clan an Aspect (This could be where Bloodlines come in as well) that translates their Weakness into a Tag/Compel as well as giving them an aspect of their key Dicipline as a Invoke.

I like this. You should call the Virtues Vices instead.
This is somewhat in line with "Monster Garage" from the Requiem Storyteller's Guide.
