I've been using these numbers for figuring out a realistic map of Shanri. Finally figured out that the only way to make it work isn't to set it up by regions but by provinces.

That's how I did it. I made a huge hex map in GIMP, with each hex equaling a province or a similar amount of water, used some filters and distortions to make it look more like coastline instead of hexes, used one of the Cartographers' Guild tutorials on map making in GIMP, and that was that.

Any chance I can convince you to post a copy of your map somewhere?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I don't get on here very often lately. Anyway with regards to posting the image, kind of. As I made it, no, I can't think of any way. I made it at a very high resolution, so we could put it on my buddy's tablet then zoom in to have a map showed most of Shanri, but still looked decent as we zoom in to look at a specific island. That's great for passing it around directly, but picture sharing sites tend to restrict the maximum size of an image. Here's a low res version that I made to put on our gaming group's Facebook wall. It's much uglier than the original, but it'll give you an idea.

To make it, I started by using this site to make custom a custom hex sheet: http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/hexagonal/

Then I used GIMP to fill it in, the used the blur filter, then I used the ripple distort to make it look a little more like coasts than hexes. It also threw out a bunch of little mini islands around the edge that were much too small for provinces, but made it look more like a real archipelago. From there, with a basic shape to the land, I used a GIMP map making tutorial. I more or less skipped the mountains and hills stuff because that way I can add them later on the province level.
