Roadmen... Kicking Back and Drinking Wine

Postby khelek » Fri Sep 12, 2008 4:08 pm

I love questions!

Here is today's:

Roadmen what do they do... ?
For example Their close cousin the Personal Guard can protect you, accompany you, and even claim regions for you. They also can learn maneuvers on their own! whoa!

The Swordsman and the Master of the Road both have their Nifty Benefits.

What what about the Roadmen... do they just kick back in your plains and drink wine until you train them enough to make them a MotR? or wait until your attacked to go and get Murdered defending your Home?

The book states that they "Quell Trouble" but never says they have a mechanic to do so. Your Senechal can Quell Trouble with his mechanics (When you get one that is).

My thoughts:
- They may Quell Trouble in one Rural Region per Season.
- You may station them in a number of Rural Regions equal to or less than their Rank in Winter, they reduce the Trouble Dice rolled there.
- They can also Learn Manuvers (but can not leave your Province!)

Maybe? Maybe Not?

Edit: Spelling and some smoothing out of the text :?

Personal Guard may not Explore Regions or Quell Trouble for you. I know on page 252, it reads "you lead a brave band of personal guard..." but that's meant to be flavor text. (Note the lack of game mechanic Capital Letters.)

Roadmen can Quell Trouble in Regions, not Personal Guard.

Third comment in a row (I had allot of time to think on the Metro this morning).

So i have my Guard Quelling Trouble... do they get one Season Action per Season, or one per Rank per Season...

If the first is the only point of traiign them up to get a Master of the Road? (and for Mass Murder?)

If the second there with a Master and a Rank 3 Roadmen you are really kicking it to Trouble!

The Roadmen can quell trouble as a season action, effectiveness being determinate on their rank. (I believe they can quell one trouble spot per, but I may be mistaken.)

The leige or their spouse are the ones that can train the Roadmen up through the rankings. Once you get them to three, you then spend a season action to promote a Master of the Road from their ranks.

So pretty much, quell Trouble, escort their leige in dangerous situations, and promote a Master of the Road are the three things that Roadmen do.

At least, until John gets the Wilderness book under way. Then I claim no knowledge.
